Cadillac history goes back all the way to the turn of the twentieth century when a man named Henry Leland started his automotive business. So, when was Cadillac founded? Cadillac was established in 1902, gaining its name from the founder of Detroit, Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac.
After only six years in business, Cadillac brought the idea of interchangeable parts to the automobile industry. This ground-breaking revolution altered the future of automotive production forever. Thanks to this breakthrough, Cadillac became the first American car to win the Dewar Trophy from the Royal Automobile Club of England. Due to this accolade, Cadillac adopted the slogan “Standard of the World.”
As stated above, the Cadillac company dates back to 1902, but what was the first Cadillac ever made? The first Cadillac produced was the Runabout in 1902. This 2-seater “horseless carriage” was powered by a 10 hp single-cylinder engine. The Runabout debuted at the 1903 New York Auto Show and was priced at $850. Shortly after, the Runabout became the Model A. From there, the Model B added an extended front and a transverse front suspension in 1904.
